It was published by Schoolhouse Pr and has a total of pages in the book. The black and white photos are actually quite nice, so your eyes aren't distracted or biased based on colors. The Principles of Knitting By June Hemmons Hiatt There are any number of good all-purpose knitting references Vogue Knitting is hard to beatbut this epic volume is a favorite.

Then, when they came back into print, I bought the first and second right off the bat. I would have preferred a sturdy cover with coil binding, to allow for placing the pages flat on a scanner, so that patterns can be evaluated side by side for design purposes. I ended up cutting every page out of the book with box cutter, putting each one in a plastic paper cover and putting it all in a binder. A Customer on Jun 24, If you knit and you like to design, this book is a must.

Wonderful fun - and educational! This cleaned up the transition somewhat. If you like to design your own knitwear, the sky is the limit as far as different ways that each one of these stitches can be used. I decreased once on each side of the cable 10 stitches per round in totalevery other round. It's an indispensible resource and is the best stitch treasury I've seen. I would recommend this book to designers and beginners alike.

Siegel on A treasury of knitting patterns book 25, I am trying to imagine a world without the Barbara G walker knitting treasuries I wish the photos were in color, but I also wish chocolate ice cream did not go to my thighs.

I believe that because there is A treasury of knitting patterns book much space between the cables, the staggered decrease is not shown to best advantage. Either could be quite serviceable by themselves as a general pattern book - but I just had to have both!

This happened for 3 decreases, and brought the stitch count down from to Walker indicates traditional historical patterns, and offers suggestions as to the type of garments best suited for a particular stitch.

These books would be an excellent reference and I have seen them referenced in contemporary garment patterns for anyone wishing to explore the use of various stitch patterns in creating their own garment designs or modifying existing designs.

By Loren Church on Dec 23, I am only a novice knitter, but Walker's book is so clear and friendly that it has improved my work noticeably. So I was absolutely delighted to find them available for sale again and hope they remain in print.

The shorthand used for writing the patterns is easily learned and, well, just makes sense. I haven't used any patterns yet, but it extended my classic knitting library. Mind you it isn't a "do this" to "get that" type of sweater book. Worth it! The accompanying commentary and introductions to each section provide a lot of extra detail and entertaining reading which will be helpful when applying the patterns to a garment.

I was attempting to teach myself "linen stitch" which is a simple slip stitch pattern recommended for knitting with chenille to keep it from biasing and "worming" loops of yarn coming out all over the place.

The black and white photos are actually quite nice, so your eyes aren't distracted or biased based on colors.

As an experienced knitter, I relied on this book more than any other in my library, and I was disappointed when borrower failed to return the book.

They also have a description of stitch foibles, such as uncommon spreading, tightness when knitting or appropriateness for yarn weight.

The Introduction is an essential read as it contains many helpful hints and tips, and the introductions to each section and accompanying text describing each of the patterns also contain a lot of valuable information.

I ordered this and the first book sight unseen. That book is as important a resource in my feminist spiritual studies as this book is in my knitting. An extraordinary exploration of an intuitive, surprising way to knit.
